Doha needs this! It’s funny to see a bunch of Facebook groups for collecting and contributing data on Doha traffic radars!

Naughty, naughty Prof. caught for speeding. What example does this set for the young ones at SCS?

    Haha,

I too suffer from a lead foot so don’t feel too bad. I think some people are just sort of born with it.

I used Trapster myself. One of my favorite things about the iphone is its ability to provide you with an app for really anything. Beats buying a bunch of different gadgets.

  9. Sunny September 30, 2009 @ 11:41 am

I see a slight problem with this app. You have to peer into the iPhone screen to see what’s going on and are a lot more likely to hit something than you would when speeding.

Social networking sites like facebook and twitter had a major role in events after iranian presidential elections. It was one of major cases where new media had a useful and effective role in social and political scene.

At last: *Useful* social networking…

Personal

For the past two weeks I’ve had meetings in Washington DC. For various reasons, I decided to drive instead of fly. Well, on my Monday drive down to DC, I was nabbed for speeding. Not the first time that’s happened to me, but still annoying…

Well, while in DC, I had lunch with the staff at the Computing Research Association. Being avid iPhone users, I got into a discussion with CRA staffers Peter Harsha and Kapil Patnaik, on our latest finds in cool iPhone apps. And what were they raving about? Trapster. By using the GPS capabilities of the phone, this great app allows users to share geolocation data about speed traps that they encounter.

Of course I had to install the app immediately. I was pretty amazed at the density of coverage of alerts on the entire drive from DC to Pittsburgh. My only disappointment was that I didn’t see any speed traps actually on the road, and thus didn’t get to contribute any data myself. (I swear they only come out in sunny weather! ;-) Maybe next week…
