Many thanks for the heads up. Knowing in advance I was able to look for him and made a photo.
So here he is: Randy Pausch in Star Trek
What a great man he was.
You can save it and put it here while you’ll look for a better one. :)

    Thanks for the photo!

By the way, CMU alumnus Zachary Quinto is the actor who plays Spock. Check out http://www.cmu.edu/homepage/creativity/2009/spring/space-the-final-frontier.shtml

    Nice! I didn’t knew that :)
Good to know. Many thanks. Can you please remove the dot at the end of shtml. It gives a 404.
Anyway I’ll remember Randy Pausch forever as the man who gave me and my nephews/nieces the greatest learning tool ever, Alice, as a bridge between generations in the land of programming. :)

Randy Pausch: “Captain, we have a visual.”

Events, News

In his Last Lecture, Randy Pausch explained that one of his childhood dreams was to be Star Trek’s Captain James T. Kirk. Well, J.J. Abrams, the director of the new Star Trek movie coming out this week, was impressed enough with this wish that he invited Randy to make an appearance in the movie. Randy managed to do this before passing away, and was even given a line in the movie: “Captain, we have a visual.”

I remember how incredibly pleased Randy was when he did this. He bragged about being given his own Star Trek uniform (kept top secret) and getting to meet the director and other actors. Perhaps the uniform will find a place on campus to be displayed…

Anyway, definitely worth checking out the movie this weekend.
