Gates Hillman Center Update

News

The construction of our future home, the Gates Hillman Center, continues to go well. Here is current snapshot, taken from the Purnell Center loading dock, looking back towards Wean Hall:

The main steel structure you see here is the Gates Center, which looks to me to have about half of its steel erected. The Hillman Center will extend towards the camera and to the right. The bridge you see sloping down from left to right is the Randy Pausch Bridge, which all but connects now to the Purnell Center rotunda.

The building looks massive now. Knowing that it is going to be nine stories tall is fine in the abstract, but seeing it in steel and concrete is really quite amazing!

Last week, the design architects, Mack Scogin and Merrill Elam, along with several of their key associates were in town to present their latest thinking for both the Randy Pausch Bridge and the interior design. As always, their ideas are always captivating, challenging, and provocative. The care that has gone into the design is truly apparent at every step.
